Periods within Edward III's Fourth Coinage


•Pre-treaty Period, 1351-61. Coins with French title.


•Transitional Treaty Period, 1361. French title omitted, irregular sized letters; mm. cross potent.


•Treaty Period, 1361-69. French title omitted, new letters, usually 'treaty' X, rarely curule chair X, mm. cross potent.


•Post-treaty Period, 1369-77. French title resumed, X like St. Andrew's cross.

Under Edward III (1327-77), Groats and Halfgroats were struck under his Fourth Coinage from 1351 up until 1377.
